Alyson Kanne began playing the harp at the age of six. In the seventeen years since then, Kanne has procured a variety of experiences that have shaped her into the versatile and exciting harpist she is today. At thirteen, Kanne joined the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO), an organization which, over the next five years, provided Kanne with valuable musical training as well as opportunities to perform with artists such as Ben Folds, Justin Timberlake, and Jim Cornelison in venues such as Symphony Hall, the Chicago Theater, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. In 2019, Kanne obtained her B.M. in Harp Performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music (JSoM), where she studied with Elzbieta Szmyt. At JSoM, Kanne performed with the Philharmonic and Concert Orchestras in addition to performing in countless composition, ad hoc, and chamber recitals. Kanne also served as principal harpist of the New Music Ensemble for five semesters, with whom she performed at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Mexico City. As a soloist, Kanne has performed Junior and Senior recitals at JSoM as well as a performance at the J. Elsner School of Music in Warsaw, Poland. Kanne currently studies with Susan Jolles at the Manhattan School of Music, where she will complete her Master’s degree in Contemporary Performance in May 2021.
